Avalon has been redesigned for 2019 with a sleeker body riding on a longer, wider, stiffer frame resulting in one of the best rides I have had this year. Our test car was the top of the line Limited Hybrid with a sticker price of a bit over 44K. The Avalon comes in the base XLE trim, the sporty XSE, a Touring Edition and the Limited. All but the Touring are available with the Hybrid power option. The base gas powerplant is a 3.5 liter direct injection engine coupled to an 8 speed transmission. Avalon is one of the few cars where the Hybrid option is clearly a viable choice for most drivers. At only $1000 on any model with a boost in fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon in the city and about 12 on the highway the fuel savings will pay off for almost any driver quickly.  There is little compromise in performance with the Hybrid power, and the Avalon will still give excellent acceleration. The new exterior is highlighted by LED lighting front and rear, functional air scoops in the front fascia and a long aerodynamic profile. As nice as the outside is the fun begins inside the Avalon.

The limited includes leather trim seating with heating and cooling, a heated steering wheel, 8 way adjustable seats, tilt and telescope column, sound deadening, solar reducing glass and easy entry mode. The well tuned suspension and extremely comfortable seats eliminate driver fatigue on even long road trips. Technology is a strong point in all new Toyotas, and the Avalon Limited offers luxury car level accessories. Beginning with the Toyota Safety Sense +P system that makes every Toyota a safer car to drive Toyota continues to pursue their stated goal of zero accidents. The new Avalon is available with cross traffic alerts, blind spot monitors, automatic high beam control, emergency braking, distance keeping cruise control and lane keeping. The new stiffer frame and traction control improves handling, while the anti lock braking keeps you going in a straight line under even panic situations. If, despite all of these safety feature, you manage to crash the Avalon the energy absorbing frame and 10 air bags will help to keep you unharmed. The 2019 Avalon is a safe car, and the sedan feels inspires confidence as you drive it. You will also find wireless charging and 4 USB connectors Infotainment is handled by Toyota’s Entune system. While this is not my favorite system it does boast a 9 inch screen and this year includes Apple Car Play. Sorry, Android Auto is still not available. Voice controls, navigation, WiFi and Toyota connect help keep you in touch and on course. You will also find wireless charging and 4 USB connectors. The JBL sound system comes with up to 1200 watts and 14 speakers providing great sound inside the well insulated cabin. Dual zone AC helps to keep passengers comfortable winter or summer as the leather and wood trim set you at ease. The 2019 Avalon Limited Hybrid makes it firmly on my top choices list of cars for this year. For more information go here   Listen to our on air review below
